It's been a hell of a year so far.
The fear and uncertainly of the Covid-19 pandemic, 9 workshops cancelled, a downsize to my studio, riots and the burning of cop cars near my home, earthquakes that smashed my dishes and left us without power for over 10 hrs, the stabbing of my neighbour, and more recently, my father's unexpected death.
I am reminded of a poem by Cynthia Occelli - "For a seed to achieve it's greatest expression, it must be completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who does not understand growth, it would look like complete destruction."
I can relate to this on a very deep level right now.
I am extremely grateful for the privilege and the opportunity be a working artist during this uncertain, transformational time. Thanks to 15th St Gallery for continuing to showcase mine and the work of so many other talented artists.
This blog was created to share my belief that the art-making process is a catalyst for transformation and personal empowerment. I am living proof.
