You used to terrify me. Your size, the infinite number of expressions, and the very real possibility that collaborating with you would just create more evidence that I suck. That said, our magnetism towards each other was so intense I could scarcely fill my mind with anything other than the thought of you.
A Sold Out 2-day Fearless Abstract Painting Workshop at the University of Utah. How do you know your painting is finished? You decide! A huge thanks to everyone who contributed to making this event a resounding success. DIRTY ZEN COLLECTION | Capturing the Light. Calming the Chaos.
Painting as a Genuine Path to Spiritual Awakening. Zen Buddhist mantras carved into multiple layers of texture made of paint, plaster, newspaper, salt, sand and sawdust to create ethereal, sculptural abstracts. Thank you Atlanta! We just love how this painting adorns the entryway of this stunning Manhattan Beach home. Welcome home. A rare photo of me inside my favorite yoga studio. For me, yoga and painting are intrinsically connected: Show Up, Set Your Intention, Be Present, Heart Before Head & Go With The Flow.
Much like caterpillar in the process of becoming a butterfly, there are times of chaos and darkness that occur. There is a tendency to expect the worst when signs of difficulty arise, when something is taken away, or unwanted circumstances come to challenge you to let go of old ideas about how life is supposed to be. Be mindful that you "Do Not Play The Victim To The Circumstances You Created". Temporary discomfort is part of the process before beauty is revealed. Minimalist Color + Maximalist Texture = LOVE (and very heavy paintings!). Creativity is messy. Embrace it! Working on my new collection of FALL 2021 paintings today.
4 paintings, 3 ways. I used to think that not assigning a "top" or a "bottom" to my paintings was doing my clients a huge favor. It wasn't. This practice confused a lot more people than it helped. The reply I would get most often was: "Which way do you think is best?".
The same goes for framing: Is a painting better with or without a frame? There are no wrong answers, only different results. These days, I typically choose the orientation and don't frame my paintings unless asked. All things considered, I love to imagine the different possibilities. |
This blog was created to share my belief that the art-making process is a catalyst for transformation and personal empowerment. I am living proof.
