Samantha da Silva: Belonging, Spirituality, and Resourcefulness:
https://vimeo.com/891242875 "Samantha daSilva (1978) is a Brazilian-born artist new to Gallery MAR in Park City. She is a third-generation artist shaped by migration, assimilation, and her desire to create. She has moved over forty times as a result of natural disasters and life circumstances. Like many who have experienced migration, she underwent a process of assimilation at the crucial age of 10, and her relationship with things was forever altered by having to leave so much behind. Her artwork has become a navigational tool that helps to connect her to new surroundings and provides a form of consistency in a life full of movement. Watch her process of creation in her Utah-based studio, filmed by Claire Wiley of Eclectic Brew Productions." Gallery MAR "Where is home? Not a simple question for someone who's moved again and again and again. From Brazil, to Canada, to the States, Samantha da Silva has moved almost 40 times - at first to find a better life, then sometimes because of metaphorical volcanoes, and once, a real one. In 2018 lava chased her and her husband from their Hawaii home.
When change is the only constant, sometimes you need something else to count on. da Silva found it here: Her art is abstract, but is often infused with a very concrete sense of place. So knowing the ground may once again move beneath her feet, she moves ahead with a sense of urgency to appreciate the here and now. No matter where in the world Samantha da Silva is, right now, this is home." I hope you enjoy this short video demonstrating how I varnish my paintings using a paint roller. It's one of the most popular questions I get from my students.
