Week 5 of Fearless Abstract Painting at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. In my workshops and retreats, I introduce "Compassionate Critiques." This is a chance to let viewers respond to your work without interference, see your work from a fresh perspective, and discuss composition basics. Spoiler alert: you'll often find that you are your harshest critic, while others' feedback tends to be much kinder. Grateful for the opportunity to connect and serve my community in this capacity.
I have a talent for transforming ordinary materials into textural art, a practice born from a lifetime of frequent moves and a desire to honor my possessions. When my childhood Bible resurfaced after years of non-use, I faced a deeply personal decision. Respecting the lessons I learned from Christianity, I shredded its pages and infused them into a textured painting titled "The Word of God." This artwork merges my past, present, and future, honoring the enduring impact of those teachings.
The Word of God, mixed media on canvas, 40" x 30" Abstract Painting & Sound Healing Workshop! June 7-9
Join us for a transformative weekend at Workshop SLC! My husband, Tyson, and I are thrilled to co-teach this unique event. I'll guide you in creating two textured paintings using salt, sand, sawdust, metallic paints, powders, and gold leaf. Tyson will offer a soothing sound meditation on Friday night to help us connect with divine inspirations. Painting in community is a privilege—vulnerable, rewarding, and deeply enriching. We can't wait to share this experience with you. Sign up now at Workshop SLC. Let's create something beautiful together! After 8 years of hurdles—paperwork, interviews, exams, and vaccinations—I'm thrilled to announce that my final naturalization interview is on the horizon! The prospect of becoming a full-fledged American citizen fills me with immense joy and hope.
This journey has been anything but easy. Legal immigration is often a nearly impossible path, demanding significant time, money, and sacrifices. The system's complexity can leave many feeling bewildered, and the odds of success often seem slim. It shouldn't be this hard. Yet, despite the challenges, my determination and the support of those around me have brought me to this pivotal moment. I am filled with gratitude and excitement for what the future holds. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Let's continue to advocate for a more just and accessible path to citizenship. Sometimes paintings come together easily; sometimes they do not. This painting is an example of the latter—it took me months to create, with approximately 16 layers. Coincidentally, I've been on this artistic journey for 16 years. Each layer represents a year of growth and struggle, culminating in a piece that finally feels complete. Sharing my work is a courageous process, even after all this time.
Courage in Layers, mixed media on canvas, 36" x 60" In our third week of Fearless Abstract Painting at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, I'm excited to introduce a unique technique: creating textures with foraged salt, soil, and sawdust. Let's explore how these natural elements can elevate your artwork to new dimensions. Join me for my upcoming workshops at Workshop SLC to delve deeper into these innovative approaches.
This piece holds a weight and a sculptural richness that feels deeply personal to me. Within its layers, you'll find pockets where gold pigment has delicately settled, offering a subtle shimmer from certain perspectives. As I crafted this artwork, I didn't just take inspiration from the land—I infused it directly into the canvas. Sawdust collected from my walks nearby and the earthy red soil of Utah became integral parts of the piece, infusing it with a raw, organic energy that speaks to my own journey and connection to nature.
Elemental Symphony, mixed media on canvas, 40" x 30" Exciting News! Thrilled to announce that 'Zen Ascent' has found its perfect home! Gratitude to Gallery Mar for their unwavering support.
