Patience, Self-Love & Belonging

Over my lifetime I have been plagued by the question: Where do I belong? I’m Brazilian but I don’t live in Brazil. I’m Canadian but I don’t live in Canada. I live in the USA but I am not quite an American. 

Home & Belonging are a constant theme in my work. I am obsessed with infusing the environment into my paintings. For me, this is an opportunity to gather information about a place & an attempt to belong to where I am. After all of these years, my relationship to Home & Belonging have come down to this:  “You are only free when you realize your belong to no place - you belong every place - you belong no place at all. The price is high. The reward is great.” Maya Angelou

If home is where the heart is, then by its most literal definition, home is where we are.
