My Biggest Commission to Date

3/12/2019

Picture

This project was a little bit different than the usual.. I painted on a wall instead of a canvas! Since I was painting on wallpaper (a commission for a client in Park City, Utah) I had to use special paint and custom made rollers. The entire job took about 19 hours.

At one point, I felt like a Cirque du Soleil performer: balancing between two ladders (one of them extremely tall ) and contorting my body to get to the hard to reach spots. The experience made me cry (tears of happiness of course!) because I am so grateful to have the opportunity to do what I love and to share it.

Sounds like you had enough of the Big Island troubles. I took one of your classes at the Volcano Art Center. My son lives in Park City so I'm familiar with the area. But to give up tropical weather for COLD COUNTRY is commendable. Losing your lava home is a motivator.
My wife and I moved to Hilo in 8/17. She to teach at UH/Hilo. Me retired. We previously lived in San Francisco for a few decades. Hilo is a nothing place and to put it mildly miss SF bay area a lot. Who wouldn't. A move to Honolulu is a strong possibility to bask in culture I can relate to. REAL museums. No jacked up pickup truck boy toy vehicles! Kona provides the only occasionally relief.
Living in Hawaii is like being in a foreign country. Having lived in Malaysia and New Zealand so I know small country mentality, especially on the Big Island. The "don't worry, be happy" fantasy ethos is disturbing. Example: it took Hilo Medical ONE YEAR to arrange a nutrition appointment! Think about that. The bay area seems so inviting now. Except the tech masters of the universe have made the standard of living so high many people can no longer afford it.
Anyway, we will move somewhere and Ireland is a possibility. I hold dual citizenship, U.S./Ireland and love Dublin (except for the Google invasion).
So I hope you are happier in SLC and thoroughly enjoyed the fearless class. Good luck!
