Happy Thanksgiving I’ve thought about what to say for several days leading up to today. My thoughts have included making a detailed list of all of the individuals & business who have contributed to my expansion over the past year. But the list was lengthy. Too lengthy! And perhaps, I thought, I am not reaching far back enough? What about the people & the sacrifices that have enabled me to have these opportunities in the first place?
My parent’s decision to leave our native country of Brazil to give our family greater opportunities. The immense support from my Canadian friends where I spent 25 years and began my career as an artist and educator. The Hawaiian islands for teaching me so intensely about adaptability & transformation. Mexico for being a place of refuge and new learning. I am overwhelmed by the people, places and experiences that have brought me here. And yes, that includes the people, places and experiences that have been extremely painful & tough to bear. They are all interwoven to make the fabric that is my life today. What I’ve come to know about gratitude is that gratitude is a practice not a one time destination. Each moment is an opportunity to make a choice whether we will exercise our “gratitude” muscle or not. I am deeply grateful for this country & my new American family & friends. Thank you for welcoming me & giving me a chance. I can understand how difficulty it can be to disrupt the status quo to include a stranger. I thank you for your graciousness & open mindedness. You continue to teach & inspire me in ways I had never thought possible. Comments are closed.
