TITLE: Gold Rush MEDIUM: Mixed Media & gold pigment SIZE: 48" x 36" Contrasting stark white walls and opulent gold, this piece emerged from my studio in Glendale—a tight-knit, working-class neighborhood where homes stand as closely as the red bricks they're made of. Lawns double as parking extensions, front porches host couches, and the air resonates with mariachi music on hot summer nights. This is life! Since arriving in this country, I've realized the power and relevance in embracing my immigrant identity. Like many, I've built my life through hard work and sweat, aiming for a better future for my family. I envision a world where we celebrate our origins, starting with myself. My studio serves as both a crucible for truth and a stage for imagining a life filled with joy.
When the environment is integral to the work, it absorbs its characteristics. Baked in the Utah sun, this piece mirrors the beautiful cracks of the earth it was crafted upon. Much like us, shaped by life's experiences, the work reveals beauty through a coat of opulent gold. Comments are closed.
