Embracing Hawaii: Painting as a Path to Belonging on the Big Island

Painting is my guiding force, the vehicle through which I make sense of my life's experiences. So, when I made the move to the enchanting Big Island of Hawaii in 2016, it didn't take me long to gather the necessary supplies and tools to embark on my artistic journey. Living two hours away from the nearest art store and with mail delivery not being an option, I turned to a ubiquitous establishment that can be found almost anywhere: my local hardware store.

With an unconventional mix of art supplies and a treasure trove of natural wonders surrounding me, such as dirt, sand, and palm fronds, I embarked on a creative adventure. This unique blend enabled me to accomplish what painting has always done for me: capturing the essence of a place and cultivating a profound sense of belonging.
