DIRTY ZEN COLLECTION | Capturing the Light. Calming the Chaos. Painting as a Genuine Path to Spiritual Awakening. Zen Buddhist mantras carved into multiple layers of texture made of paint, plaster, newspaper, salt, sand and sawdust to create ethereal, sculptural abstracts. Spirit Medicine acrylic & mixed media on canvas 30 x 48 in. There’s a reason art is typically associated with therapy. No amount of pharmaceuticals can remedy the deep longing we possess for wanting to “return home”. The therapeutic value of art is medicine for the soul. Fierce Grace acrylic & mixed media on canvas 24 x 48 in. Ordinary materials made extraordinary by channeling the Divine. Be Peace acrylic & mixed media on canvas 22 x 28 in. Painting is my mirror. In learning to see the canvas as an extension of myself, I intend to make harmonic creations full of Beauty. Truth. Light. Joy In Every Breath acrylic & mixed media on canvas 30 x 48 in. We come from love. Some of us just forgot. Beyond Duality acrylic & mixed media on canvas 40 x 60 in. The artist as a shaman. My paintings serve no utilitarian purpose. That is to say, they are not connected to food, water or shelter. They are messengers from a different realm. Beyond Duality acrylic & mixed media on canvas 40 x 60 in. The artistic process as an encounter with the sacred. Enlightenment acrylic & mixed media on canvas 24 x 48 in. These days stating that: " I painted this" feels a tad blasphemous. I do not paint my paintings alone. By aligning myself with Source creativity, I am inspired, guided and led. I used to think that I was the one making the work. In actuality, my work is done in partnership with something much greater, much more creative and limitless and myself. Journey of Awakening acrylic & mixed media on canvas 24 x 36 in. I would highly recommend swimming with wild dolphins. There is nothing else like it. The experience was one of the most exhilarating I have ever had. The day was just beginning to unfold. If I wanted to swim with the dolphins I would have to hustle and go now! The water was cold and electric. They came swimming towards me in a pack of 20-30 strong. At once I felt fear and excitement swell inside of me. I felt so small and vulnerable. A tiny spec in a huge and bottomless ocean, far from my usual environment. One of them made eye contact and seemed to communicate; “I see you!”. They were as curious of us as we were of them. The yogi, a seasoned swimmer, decided to follow the dolphins much further out than I had the strength or courage to attempt. At one point, I wondered if he would ever return. He was so at home in the watery landscape. Amazing opportunities for expansion surround us at every turn. I am reminded to encounter them with poise, breath and fearlessness. Be Peace acrylic & mixed media on canvas 24 x 48 in. Painting is a moving mediation - An invitation to become a channel through which unadulterated, creative “in-spirit-ation” can take place. Divine Consciousness acrylic & mixed media on canvas 24 x 48 in. Peeling back the layers. Seeing deeper into ourselves. Inside The Now
acrylic & mixed media on canvas 40 x 60 in. Traveling in Hawaii with a yogi for 3 years was no easy feat. At once, I recognized that my insatiable appetite for food, schedules, to do lists and forecasting into the future was at odds with the yogi’s plan for us. Me: When will we get there? Yogi: Don’t worry about the future. Just be here now. Me: What will we do once we arrive? Yogi: Meet each moment once it arrives. Not before. Not after. Me: When will we be eating? Yogi: Smile. Take deep breaths. Your appetite does not need to control you. You can control your appetite. My emotions raged and bucked like a wild horse with the pain and discomfort of these new admonitions. With time however, I learned to recognize the gifts in the yogi’s way of being. I no longer feared fasting or being "Inside The Now." Comments are closed.
