Memorial Paintings
Sometimes, destiny finds its way to us. Over the years, various individuals and circumstances have steered me towards the idea of incorporating cremated human remains into my paintings. Initially, fear held me back, causing me to resist this unconventional path. However, a breakthrough occurred when a dear friend approached me, asking if I would create a painting for her using her late husband's cremated remains. It was a profound moment of realization. I could no longer ignore or evade this undeniable calling.
How did my friend come to trust me with such a deeply personal and sacred endeavor? She explained that it was her intuition, an answer to her prayers.
My first experience working with cremains filled me with awe, curiosity, gratitude, reverence, and surrender. To be entrusted as a gentle guide, assisting my friend in transforming her devastating loss, was a blessing of immeasurable magnitude—one that words struggle to capture.
Throughout the process, my friend had complete control over the canvas size, colors, textures, timeline, and precisely how much of her husband's cremains would be incorporated. When we gathered, we would offer prayers, seeking guidance and support for the creative journey ahead.
If any doubts lingered in my mind about the existence of life beyond death, this experience shattered them all. I am now certain, without a shadow of a doubt, that death is not the end. As I painted, I felt a profound presence alongside me, knowing that her late husband was there, accompanying every step of the process. Interestingly, the moment the completed canvas left my studio, his presence departed as well.
The transformative power of this experience cannot be rushed. It took several years for my friend to embark on her own journey of healing and renewal. Each person's process is unique, and there is no "one size fits all" approach. Some individuals prefer painting in outdoor spaces that hold special significance to their loved ones, where they can best connect with their presence. Others wish to actively participate in the creative process, either by painting themselves or by bearing witness to its unfolding. If you require guidance in navigating your own journey, please don't hesitate to contact me via email. I am more than happy to connect with you.
Thank you for affording me the privilege and opportunity to fulfill the work I have been called to do.
