2022 This Is Home
In my work, I juxtapose the ethereal nature of emotion with the tangible essence of place by incorporating local, natural materials into my paintings. “There’s been a lot of movement in my life,” I reflect, “but a constant theme has been home and belonging. By integrating the environment into my pieces, I aim to connect with where I am and to tell a story about place on the canvas.” To celebrate the unique Utah landscape, I use the area’s distinctive red dirt, local sawdust, and salt from the Great Salt Lake, adding texture and depth to my work. I extend a heartfelt thank you to Terry Tempest Williams—American writer, educator, conservationist, and activist—for inspiring many of the painting titles in this series.
