2021 – Dirty Zen
More than ever, my works resemble sculptures—thick, carved reliefs that capture light and calm chaos.
Dirty Zen draws from Buddhist mantras etched into dense layers of iron-rich Utah dirt, Great Salt Lake salt, plaster, repurposed paint, metallic pigments, and local newspaper.
Painting as prayer. Layers of intention.
This series emerges from a single pursuit: an evolved self and a more enlightened humanity. I asked: How can I create work that truly embodies my values? How can I express my highest self for the benefit of others? How can I move from thinking “We are one” to knowing it in my soul?
The answers lie in awareness—and the deliberate choice to cultivate peace within, so it radiates without.
We cannot help but paint who we are. The canvas is our mirror: As within, so without.
