2017 A New Earth
This series of paintings was born in the lush jungle of Kapoho, Hawaii, where the Big Island profoundly influences my work. To achieve the unique surface textures, I draw from my environment, incorporating elements like earth, rainwater, black, white, and green sand, rusted metal, and coconut fronds. However, it’s the energy of the island—shaped by constant volcanic eruptions—and the rich contrasts of the Hawaiian landscape that truly inspire me. Translating that intensity onto the canvas feels akin to taming a wild horse.
My paintings serve no utilitarian purpose; they are not tied to survival like food, water, shelter, or human connection. Instead, they act as a bridge between the physical world and the formless. These works are messengers from another realm, inviting viewers to awaken within the dream: this is A New Earth.
