Q. I put Liquitex Gloss varnish on my acrylic painting and it is cloudy looking.
Q. Dear Sam,
I put Liquitex Gloss Varnish on my acrylic painting and it is cloudy looking. Can I just paint over it or should I apply more gloss varnish?
A. Dear Cloudy,
The only reason I can think of for this to have happened, is that perhaps your painting was not completely dry.
Sometimes, although the painting might feel dry to the touch it has not "cured". When water becomes trapped underneath the varnish layer, this can cause a milky, white haze to appear. Unfortunately, there is no way to get rid of this effect. Applying more varnish will probably not make a difference.
