When Does Information Become Too Much Information?

6/30/2017

We live in a society inundated with information. As a result, I believe that knowing what to learn is just as important as knowing what not to learn.

From the beginning of my art career, I chose not to read product labels, art books or to watch a single "How To" YouTube Video.

Why? It was as though the more examples I had of amazing art/artists, and instructions on the proper use of materials, the less I felt like I could create something unique.

Information took the form of well meaning advice: “You must learn the rules in order to break them”. That did not work for me. Learning the rules made me feel paralyzed.

So, if information inhibits my creativity, I would rather not be informed. This allows me the freedom I need to experiment and innovate on the canvas.

When you don’t know the rules, you’re free to make up your own.

"The Truth Will Make You Free"...the inner truth I mean... That's why I loved taking your classes. We are not there to copy YOUR creation, but to make up our OWN. Thank you for showing us HOW!
