Make friends with change.
2 Days ago I watched a virtual gallery tour and I started bawling. Literally bawling. This reaction was extremely surprising, even to me! What's wrong with me? I thought. All I can say is that I felt a huge, overwhelming sense of loss. Loss for the "good old days" of being able to physically go to an art gallery and experience the artwork in person.
The world has changed. I get it. We've all been forced to adapt.
In my world, I have been resisting the idea of teaching through ZOOM profusely. My thought was that my teaching just wouldn't translate well on camera. Besides, I'm Latina. I love touching and hugging people, and working closely with my students. This pandemic has been a hard adjustment for me in that regard.
So, I finally decided to teach my first Zoom workshop this Saturday in collaboration with Arts Benicia, CA. It SOLD OUT. So I decided to book a second 2-day Zoom workshop. This time, in partnership with Healdsburg Center for the Arts, CA. I expect this workshop will sell out quickly also.
Here is the moral of this story: There are blessings and opportunities even in disasters and pandemics. I already know this! I guess I just forgot? The realization that I will be able to connect with students coming as far as Australia & Canada is delightful to me. "da silva lining"! lol
Thank you, and I look forward to connecting with you.
This blog was created to share my belief that the art-making process is a catalyst for transformation and personal empowerment. I am living proof.
