LIGHT & AIRY
I delight in creating one-of-kind commission paintings for my collectors. This pretty pair flew the coup this morning towards their new home in Hermosa Beach, California. I love the calm, peaceful palette & the serenity they exude. I can't wait to see how they settle into their new nest. Catch the Sky & Morning Flight acrylic & mixed media on canvas 36 x 48 in. each I am starstruck! Look who just dropped by the studio: Utah State Senator Derek Kitchen!
Throughout our meeting, my grin was so huge I could barely contain my cool. This man is a LEGEND. In 2014 Kitchen and his partner sued the state of Utah for marriage equality. This case legalized same sex marriage in Utah and five oher states in the western U.S., establisjhing a graoundbreaking case law that led to nationwide marriage equality in 2015. I am honored to be in alignment with other humans who contribute to the health, vitality and betterment of our community. Senator Kitchen had-picked one of my paintings to be auctioned during a "HousepARTy fundraiser on May 31st. All proceeds will go to Senator Kitchen's re-election campaign. Last night's opening reception for the BDAC 47th Annual Statewide Competition was a resounding success!
Thank you to all of the friends & family who attended, the talented artists who contributed to the show, and to Bountiful Davis Art Center for investing in Utah's vibrant arts community. A special thanks to Chauncey Secrist & Nancy Rivera for curating a fabulous show. I see you PUPU. On view May 13 - July 16 Beige. Taupe. Sand. Tan. Cream. Earthy neutrals are anything but boring. Neither are the stories that inspired their creation.
"There is a time when it is necessary to abandon used clothes, which already have the shape of our body, and forget our paths, which always lead us to the same places. It is the time of the crossing: and, if we do not dare to do it, we will have remained, forever, on the sidelines of ourselves." Fernando Pessoa
I am so excited to announce my participation in 2 upcoming exhibits:

Such good news!
I just received confirmation that 2 of my paintings have been selected to participate in the ANNUAL STATEWIDE COMPETITION at the Bountiful Davis Art Center on May 13th - July 16th, 2022. Opening Reception will be held on Friday, May 13th at 6 PM. A special thank you to Nancy Rivera & Chauncey Secrist. Utah is a strange, charming place.
When the pendulum swings too far in one direction, it’s bound to create a vacuum in the equal and opposite direction. For all of its conservatism and strong Mormon presence, Utah possesses a vibrant and extremely well organized counterculture. My new series of paintings explores the interconnectedness of geography & experience in creating a sense of place. By way of autobiographical and oftentimes confessional artwork, the exhibition centers on my response to my new home environment in Salt Lake City, Utah from a distinctly Latina, American-in-waiting point of view. |
This blog was created to share my belief that the art-making process is a catalyst for transformation and personal empowerment. I am living proof.
