My upcoming workshop in Sonoma, CA on February 3 & 4 is Sold Out! In response to the high demand, we've decided to offer a second workshop: Fearless Abstract Painting Workshop | 2-daysDate: Tuesday, February 20 & Wednesday, February 21, 2018
Time: 10 AM - 4 PM (12 hours) Location: Sonoma Community Center, Sonoma, CA For more information & to register: http://www.sonomacommunitycenter.org/ Space is limited to 12 participants. Not long after we arrived at our off-grid homestead, we realized that our hot water heater had burst, and drained our 5,000-gallon water tank. Our entire water supply. When you live off-grid, this is considered an emergency situation. Simply stated: Water is life, and without water, there is no life. An art studio with an ocean view, using leaves as stencils, eating from a basketful of start fruit, drying our paintings in the Hawaiian sun, making friends to last a lifetime & having my husband join the class impromptu. My heart is full. Thank you to everyone who made our Fearless Mixed Media Workshop a huge success. XO True to my “I refuse to read paint product labels” philosophy, my method for varnishing is quite unorthodox. It involves using varnish in ways that are not recommended by artists and paint companies. Still, I love my way of varnishing! It’s quick, easy and hassle free. So despite all of the contradictory advice out there, I am going to keep using varnish in my own way, and I hope you love it too. This afternoon, as I made my way home at the end of another highly physical work day, I looked down at my $200 Citizens of Humanity skinny-jeans and took note: Faded, caked in mud, stretched in all the wrong places (due to constant washing and drying at the local coin laundry), and near-holes everywhere. Translucent layering is my favorite technique to create depth, add harmony & change the mood of my paintings. In the following blog post, I describe 2 types of translucent layering techniques & how to apply them. Plaster is my super secret weapon of choice when it comes to texture building. In fact, it is so good and effective, that I have often been asked not to share this trade secret with my students (when I teach at some art stores), for fear that they would buy the plaster instead of the products at the art store. I love textured paintings! Whether this is done by working with acrylic paint alone, the use of different application tools, mediums and/or incorporating mixed media elements, texture is a great way to experiment and create paintings that are uniquely personal. In the following blog post, I share my 2 favorite mediums for creating texture: Gel Medium & Modeling/Molding Paste. Hello Salt Lake City friends! I would like to invite you to participate in my upcoming 2-day Fearless Abstract Painting workshop on February 10 & 11 from 10 am - 4 pm in partnership with the fabulous Portia Snow. Portia's 1,000 square feet studio has all of my favorite elements: brick walls, wood floors, large windows, and lots of room for us to paint wild, fearless and free! Space is limited to 12 participants. |
This blog was created to share my belief that the art-making process is a catalyst for transformation and personal empowerment. I am living proof.
