A few weeks ago, I shared an example with my class that I will share with you today:
I drive a standard car. When I was first learning how to drive stick shift, I needed to think about each and every action in order to make the right move. On my way to learning how to drive, there were many mistakes and even stalls at busy intersections.
Fast forward to today, I no longer have to think about what I am doing when I am driving. My actions have become automatic. I just drive.
I told my students that fearless painting is a lot like driving standard. If you paint often enough, your actions become automatic and without having to think, you just know what to do.
This is my hope for all of my students: To get them to a point that they no longer have to think and paint.
Because when you have reached this point my friends… you have reached what I call a form of nirvana. This is pure joy.
Come to think of it, maybe life is like that too.
This blog was created to share my belief that the art-making process is a catalyst for transformation and
I am living proof.
