Announcing my first solo exhibition in Hawaii on Saturday, July 8 at PORTAL Art Gallery in Pahoa! The Big Island influences my work in a major way. Namely, in order to achieve my surface textures, I use elements from my environment including: earth, rain water, black, white and green sand, plaster, concrete, coconut fronds and rusted metal, just to name a few. Mostly though, I find that it's the intense energy felt here on the island (as a result of the constant volcanic eruptions), as well as the rich contrast in the Hawaiian landscape that influence my work the most.

First thought - Primal Grounds. I realize that's also a coffee house in Calgary (I think...), but I still like the sound of it.
