One I like. The other I don't. Never mind the fact that I chose to photograph an artist quality (Golden Raw Umber) next to a student quality (Galleria Burnt Umber). The fact remains that when it comes to my method of painting (rollers, mediums and extremely diluted acrylic paint) I prefer the Raw Umber over Burnt Umber any day.
Raw Umber: A natural cool brown Leans towards green rather than orange Looks crisper & cleaner when diluted with a lot of water Burn Umber: A natural warm brown Leans towards orange not green Tends to look muddy when diluted with a lot of water Another one of my favorite browns to use is Vandyke Brown by Winsor Newton.
