For the record: I have never used this product as directed on the label.
But many of my students have. Here's how this product is meant to be used:
1. Apply a coat of acrylic paint to canvas and let dry.
2. Apply a coat of Kroma Crackle on top of the dry paint layer and let dry.
3. Apply a coat of acrylic paint on top of the previous two layers and watch it crackle.
See the tiny crackles to in the picture above to the right of the product? That's the effect we're looking for.
I am told however, that in order for this product to have a bigger crackling effect, you must apply a thick coat of the product. This was not the case in the above picture as only a thin layer was applied.
How do I use this product? Definitely not as prescribed. (As a general rule, I don't read labels. Ever.) I apply a blob of paint and the afore mentioned medium to my canvas, mix it all over and let dry. When I apply a wash of acrylic colour on top, crackling may or may not occur. I guess you could say I am more interested in the surprise element.
This blog was created to share my belief that the art-making process is a catalyst for transformation and
I am living proof.
