I’ve never read The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but the venue seems fitting. After that, it was back to the Musee d’Orsay. I paid for my ticket and I’ve never been happier to do so. I saw the remainder of the museum the way I had imagined it: Slow and contemplative, soaking it all in. I was pleasantly surprised by my newfound adoration for the paintings of Toulouse-Lautrec. Born into one of Paris’s most noble families, he chose instead to live in the brothels of the Cliché district in order to draw, in-situ, the dancers and prostitutes from that time. He did this utmost skill and without sentimentality. Truly stunning. Another taxi ride: This time to Galleries Lafayette. And for the first time since I arrived, it’s not an art gallery!
