Ask Sam #12: Blogging About Personal Stuff

7/17/2014

Picture

Q. I'm told that I should separate my art business from my life stuff, which puts the blog I have now in question. Yet, I'm not convinced this is the way to go for me. My art is so intertwined with my life and vice-versa. Do I really want to separate this?

A. Being a professional artist and a blogger myself, my advice to you is to follow your heart. If you feel like your art and life are so intertwined that it would be impossible to write about one without writing about the other, I say do it. Trust that your heart will lead you in the right direction.

Keep in mind that just like the paintings we create, you are bound to run into people that may or may not like what you have to paint and/or say. Other people's reaction to our work is beyond our control. Your responsibility is to be true to yourself. If you feel like you need to change, adapt and adjust your choice in the future, you can always change your mind.
