"What makes us think that we can be really critical with ourselves in every other role we play outside of the studio, but expect that we are loving and encouraging with ourselves inside the studio?... A.J. Ottwel Centre, Sherwood Park, Alberta Who would have know that one day I would be traveling to teach abstract painting?! Not me! Definitely not me.
This weekend, I was invite to teach the Art Society of Strathcona County at the historic A.J. Ottowel Centre in Sherwood Park, Alberta. In a sold out workshop for 16 , I remember counseling the students - much like I do in most of my workshops - to be kind with themselves: "What makes us think that we can be really critical with ourselves in every other role we play outside of the studio, but expect that we are loving and encouraging with ourselves inside the studio? We can't. Our attitude with ourselves will reflect how we treat ourselves inside the studio."

I also agree. It is a known fact our moods reflect back in our paintings. Feeling good about ourselves in the studio if the first step to becoming successful in what we love to do! Comments are closed.
