What if our true selves were painted across our skin, visible for the world to see? I believe that everything we create is a reflection of who we are, and for an artist, the canvas is our mirror.
My journey began on the enchanting black sand beaches of Kehena on Hawai'i, where I first witnessed the magic of body painting. The thought of becoming a living canvas ignited a spark in my heart—a joyful possibility that has stayed with me. When my dear friend and teacher Akasha Kirti https://choosingsurrender.com/ invited us to envision a ritual for our grief class, body painting emerged as a powerful symbol of healing. In that sacred space, I confronted my fear of being seen. As an immigrant who once felt voiceless, I often drifted into the shadows, believing I didn’t belong. This silence grew into a deep-seated fear of visibility. But for this ritual, I chose to embrace the light. Laying down on a drop cloth, I invited my community to adorn my body with words of affirmation—“I am worthy”—and other inspirations that flowed from their hearts. Each brushstroke felt like a gentle release, a shedding of layers that had long held me back. Surrounded by love and support, I experienced a profound transformation, leaving me lighter and more liberated. I believe in the healing power of vulnerability, and I’m called to share this journey with others. Let’s explore the tools that can help us live more intentionally—fostering hope, empowerment, and fearlessness. Together, we can embrace our true selves and celebrate the beauty of being seen.
