Gratitude feels like an understatement. A heartfelt thank you to my family, friends, fans, students, collectors, and partners who uplift my small business.
I have a ritual that helps me connect with my surroundings: I seek out the dirt. It reminds me of a powerful scene from Gladiator, where the protagonist crouches to touch the earth before facing his destiny. In that moment, he acknowledges the land beneath him, grounding himself before the battle ahead.
“Setting Myself Free” captures this essence of connection. It’s a reminder that we come from dust and will return to it. Embracing this cycle has taught me the true meaning of freedom. Through creating and sharing this artwork, I hope to inspire others to forge their own connections to the places they inhabit. Setting Myself Free, Iron-rich Utah dirt, salt from the Great Salt Lake, foraged sawdust, local newspaper, refurbished paint, and plaster on canvas, 48" x 36" Inspired by fall, I watch as trees gracefully release what no longer serves them, preparing for winter's embrace. This season teaches me that letting go isn't losing, it's a chance to grow deeper and nurture my spirit. Embrace the beauty of release and trust the strength that follows.
Synopsis for Body of Work
Body of Work is a transformative performance art ritual that explores grief, connection, and self-acceptance. In a communal setting, the artist lies on a painter’s drop cloth, becoming a living canvas as participants surround them, painting affirmations of resilience, love, and hope on their skin. This act of creation serves as a powerful expression of vulnerability, inviting participants to reflect on their own experiences of loss and healing. Through the shared act of painting, the ritual fosters a collective space for support and affirmation, reminding everyone that they are not alone in their grief. As stories intertwine and voices rise in acceptance, Body of Work reclaims the narrative of grief, transforming it into a celebration of shared humanity and strength. This intimate exploration encourages participants to confront their emotions, embrace their true selves, and find empowerment in community. Being at peace doesn’t mean being a doormat; it means embracing your strength and standing up for what’s right. True peace comes from within, and sometimes that requires us to advocate fiercely for ourselves and our values.
Let’s remember that our voices matter. By standing up for what we believe in, we not only honor ourselves but also inspire others to do the same. Together, we can cultivate a community where everyone feels valued and empowered. The Art of Being Peace, mixed media on canvas, 48" x 36" In my latest work, I’ve immersed sculptural pieces made from organic materials in water, creating a beautiful dialogue between art and nature. This interaction evokes peace and harmony, inviting reflection on the balance between creativity and the environment.
From Costa Rica to Hawaii and the USA, I aim to capture moments where art transcends its medium and becomes part of the natural world.
