One morning, while I was getting ready to teach one of my painting workshops, my 6-year old niece asked me where I was going. "I am going to teach people how to paint!" I answered with excitement. She looked up at me with a puzzled expression and said: "You mean, they forgot?"
I believe we were all born artists. Some of us just need help remembering.

Has it been one year already? I can hardly believe it. I remember this time last year, when I also participated in this show. At that time, I didn't know a single soul. This time, my happiest moment came when I realized I could recognize a few familiar faces in the crowd. A night of art, music, celebration and gratitude.
This is my life! This morning I swam with turtles. Then I taught a Fearless Abstract Painting Workshop to an incredible group of artists. This was the first time I taught at Akamai Art Supply, my classroom had such an expansive view of the ocean, and I had dripping wet hair while teaching. A heartfelt Thank You to everyone who came together to make this amazing experience a reality.
When you can't decide what fills your heart with more joy: getting your story printed in the paper, or the fact that your life partner had his first published photograph. I'm leaning towards the latter. A heartfelt "Thank You" to the Hawaii Tribune Herald, the Volcano Art Center and last, but certainly not least, to my husband Tyson.

After one year of living in Hawaii, I have to admit that going back to the "big city" felt surprisingly strange. At one point during our journey I turned to my husband and asked incredulously: " Where is everybody going? What is the rush?" No doubt island living is changing this born and raised city girl. I embrace the influences this massive life change is having on my art.

This blog was created to share my belief that the art making process can be a vehicle for empowerment.
I am living proof.
