It's one thing to see your paintings on the studio floor. It's entirely different experience to see them embrace all of their potential up on a wall. This blog post is dedicated to showcasing some of the paintings I recently delivered to The Heather Company in Calgary, Alberta. 25 days. 2 countries. 6 cities. 5 flights. 3 workshops. 39 students. 3 commissions. 1 monster commission. 3 art shows. 2 artist talks. 6 different beds. 1 deep fried peanut butter & jelly sandwich. My only regret? Not dipping my deep fried PPJ sandwich into more whipped cream. 18 Fearless Abstract Painters! Thank you. For showing up, for doing the work, for trusting me, for trusting each other, for trusting yourself, for trying something new, for asking questions, for answering your own questions, for thinking outside of the box, for not giving up, for coming back, for coming in early, for staying late, for encouraging me, for encouraging each other, for dancing, for laughing, for crying, for being vulnerable, for making connections, for letting go, for embracing the unexpected, for being brave, bold, and especially for being fearless. Series Summer Arts School, Red Deer College, Alberta Today's Class Schedule: How to Know When Your Painting is Finished, How to Varnish Like a Pro, Art Show Set-Up & Student Showcase. Apparently, we cannot be contained! Artwork spills out of the classroom more and more each day. When we come together as a collective of artists, we have the unique opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from each other. We become inspired! The result, is creating a work as unique as you are.
At the start of my art career, my goal was to have my paintings hanging in galleries across Canada, the US and Europe. Teaching my first abstract painting workshop (nearly 8 years ago) completely derailed my life. Now, when I think about travelling across Canada, the US and Europe, it's no longer about having my paintings on display. It's to teach. Thank you to the students who take my class, and give me the opportunity to do what I love. I couldn't do it without you. |
This blog was created to share my belief that the art-making process is a catalyst for transformation and personal empowerment. I am living proof.
