Day One of my Fearless Abstract Painting Workshop was all about setting intentions and allowing the creative process to unfold naturally into new ideas. Huge thanks to Workshop SLC for hosting and supporting our creative journey.
I love the wind. I love floating canvases on water, infusing the environment into my work as a tribute to the sacred land we stand upon.
Plein air painting along the shores of the Great Salt Lake is one of my most immersive and inspiring experiences. Through this work, I explore themes of belonging—being present where I am—resourcefulness—using simple materials—and spirituality—honoring how nature sustains and informs us. Crafting a commissioned painting is always a journey, but when it's for your best friend, it truly takes things to the next level. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to create this piece for my sister in her new, beautifully remodeled home. Despite the distance between us, we are forever connected in heart. Happy birthday, Queen Bee!
Together in Heart, mixed media on canvas, 48" x 36" A Grand Entrance
Here's a sneak peek of a commissioned painting on its way to a beautiful family home in Moonlight Basin, Big Sky, Montana. Huge thanks to our friends at Echo Arts for making this happen. I can't wait to see this beauty installed and welcoming family and visitors alike into this special space. Small in size but rich in character, these works are perfect for those who appreciate the intricate, the playful, and the intimate. It celebrates the beauty of the little things, reminding us that even the smallest works can make a big impact.
Huge thanks to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts https://umfa.utah.edu/ for hosting my Fearless Abstract Painting workshop! Grateful for the amazing support and creativity shared today.
Exploring tension, vulnerability, and perception through my latest series of sculptures.
From the rupture of "Breaking Through," the quiet depth of "Heart Meditation," to the introspective question in "Is It True?"—each piece invites reflection on resilience, internal layers, and the search for truth. "The Still Heart of Awareness" is a sculptural exploration of healing and transformation. A subtle incision down the center symbolizes vulnerability and introspection - a quiet invitation to look deeper.
This artwork has had 9 lives! It was nearly lost when I used it to channel a broken heart. Originally repaired with red rope, it was later reassembled, revealing that true healing comes through gentleness, not forced closure. Its journey continued as a vessel for goddess empowerment, in sepia, bronze, and simmering gold. This piece captures the slow process of healing, and the belief that every wound and moment serves a purpose. It’s a personal reflection on resilience, transformation, and the understanding that everything happens for us, not to us. The Still Heart of Awareness, mixed media on canvas, 48" x 36" I am pleased to share that my large-scale sculptural piece, The Art of Liberation, has found a new home in Washington, DC. This work is particularly personal and meaningful to me.
It was created with the intention of visually expressing the act of breaking free from the bonds that can hold us back, symbolizing the pursuit of freedom. The piece was initially bound with Shibari rope and left to bake in the Utah sun. Once dried, the ropes were unbound, leaving behind indentations that reflect the process and the journey of release. My hope is that this piece will bring a sense of joy and inspiration for years to come. I also want to extend my sincere gratitude to Gallery Mar for their ongoing support and encouragement of my creative journey. Shop Gallery Mar https://www.gallerymar.com/artists/samantha-da-silva |
This blog was created to share my belief that the art-making process is a catalyst for transformation and personal empowerment. I am living proof.
