Q. I’m registered for your Fearless Abstract Painting Workshop at MISSA in July. I was just out looking for the paint (there’s a sale this weekend) and my usual stores (Opus and Art World) aren’t carrying Liquitex Basics any more. I wondered if they are particularly good or if another student grade acrylic (Amsterdam ? Buzz? Pebeo high viscosity? Pro acrylics?) would work as well with your approach. I have lots of time to order on line if you think Liquitex Basics are best, but just wondered if the other brands might do? Also neither carries WN Galleria. Do you know another brand for this?
A. Thank you for contacting me! I am thrilled we will have the opportunity to work together this July. I am so excited!
To answer your question concerning which brand or acrylic paint to buy, please feel free to bring any brand you wish.
For beginners, I usually recommend a student quality paint such as Liquitex Basics, Pebeo and Winsor Newton Galleria. I also recommend staying away from a high viscosity / heavy body paint since we will be adding a lot of water to the paint to dilute them.
I hope this answers your question. Happy shopping this weekend!
