My initial inspiration for this piece was the desire to explore the rich symbolism of beeswax, reflecting both the industrious spirit of Utah and its connection to the natural world. As I contemplated the state flag, adorned with a beehive, the word "industry" resonated deeply with me.
As the piece evolved, I carved a cross onto the surface—a tribute to Utah's spiritual roots and a nod to the four corners that symbolize unity and the intertwining of diverse beliefs, including those of the Native American communities that have shaped this land. The carved lines began to resemble wounds in need of healing, prompting me to pack them with ash from a spring equinox fire. This act signifies renewal and new beginnings, embodying the transformative power of faith and connection. "4 Corners: Intersections of Faith" is a mixed media work that fuses beeswax, ash, and other materials on canvas (12”x9”). It invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys of healing, growth, and the intersections that shape our collective spiritual landscape. Comments are closed.
