2026- Hawaiʻi
The years I spent in Hawaiʻi remain some of the most formative of my life and practice.
Living on the Big Island — building an off-grid home, experiencing the 2018 Kīlauea eruption, and learning to live with constant change — taught me to collaborate deeply with the land. I drew surfaces directly from the earth: rainwater, black, white, and green sand, rusted metal, coconut fronds, and volcanic materials. Canvases were floated in the ocean. The work that emerged was raw, resilient, and rooted in place.
These experiences continue to inform my topographic abstractions and my belief in art as a form of alchemy and renewal. Hawaiʻi taught me that true grounding often comes after the ground itself has moved.
I have returned to the islands nearly every year since the evacuation to continue painting and collaborating with the land.
During this period I also taught and exhibited extensively across the islands — including solo and group shows at Moon & Turtle (Hilo), Volcano Art Center, and Art Project Paia Gallery — while partnering with Akamai Art Supply, Donkey Mill Art Center, and several Maui design studios. Works entered corporate collections such as West Hawaii Community Health Center, and the practice was covered by the Hawaii Tribune Herald.
