2017 – A New Earth

2017 – A New Earth

This series was born in the lush jungle of Kapoho, Hawaii, where the Big Island’s untamed volcanic energy fundamentally reshaped my work.

I drew surfaces directly from the land — earth, rainwater, black, white, and green sand, rusted metal, and coconut fronds. Yet it was the island’s constant volcanic pulse — the stark contrast between dense jungle and flowing lava — that truly ignited me. Translating that wild, living intensity onto canvas felt like taming a free-spirited horse: alive, unpredictable, and exhilarating.

These paintings serve no practical purpose — they are not food, water, shelter, or even connection. Instead, they bridge the physical and the formless, acting as messengers from another realm. They invite the viewer to awaken within the dream: this is A New Earth.
