About the drawings
In 2009 I decided to experiment with blind drawings. This means that the process of drawing is done without ever looking at what I am drawing. My gaze remains fixed upon an image or object as my hands attempt to record what my eyes see.
This exercise creates a feeling of complete freedom and trust. It allows me to remain unattached to creating an image that is “correct”. Instead, the resulting image is one that borders on abstraction, is a little odd, and always a lot of fun.
With the previous eight drawings, I decided to focus on images of women of influence. Women whom I know personally or not at all, but who have influenced my life in a positive way. I hope that with this series, I am able to create a sense of awareness in the viewer for all of the women that influence us for good.
