Dear mom, it's all because of you. My success as an artist and as a person stems directly from your encouragement, support and unconditional love. Remember the time when I had just moved in with you... I was in bed, frail, unhappy, unable to sleep. You brushed my dirty, damp hair from my forehead and said: "Samy, I see so much happiness and success in your future. I don't doubt it! I wish you could see yourself through my eyes. What you've been through has made you stronger, and as a result of your experiences you will be able to touch the lives of so many."
Frick mom, you were so right. I love you like crazy.
Go to the park. Have a pic nic. Hold a butterfly in your hand. Surround yourself with people that love you. The pain is temporary so it never lasts.

I woke up this morning with a crap load of things to do. And I didn't feel like doing any of them. It was a gorgeous, sunny day in Calgary so I decided to call up one of my best buddies and gallery hop on 11th. Our trajectory included Trepanier Baer, Country Furniture, Bo Concept, New Zones, Paul Kuhn, Peridot Decorative Homewear and the Weiss. It all began with a Starbucks and a long wait for the washroom at Safeway. The security guard finally unlocked the door to the bathroom by force to reveal a man in black leather (nothing wrong with leather but on a warm day like today?) who seemed alarmed and somewhat annoyed that we had interrupted his grooming.
Is it sandal weather yet? I say it is.
A trip down to Sandy Beach to take in the sun, the wind, the brown leaves, the buds on the trees and to play hide and go seek with my nephew, all while sipping on a steaming chai latte with my sister-in-law. Then it's off to lunch with mom at the golf course and country club called Orvilles. Another round of Shirley Temple's anyone? Yes, please! And hour on the phone with my sister, an email to offer my condolences to my brother's deceased Honda and happy birthday wishes to my cousin and I call it a day. A really good day. What's life if you can't share it with the people you love right?
My mother has been practicing for months. Saturday night I witnessed first hand the result of all of her preparation and hard work. She sang in a choir of women to celebrate the 170th Anniversary of the Relief Society, one of the oldest and largest women's organizations in the world. Founded in 1842 in Nauvoo, Illinois, it has approximately 6 million members in over 170 countries and territories. She is one of them. And I am so proud of her.
I am what I am today because of you mom
the female dragon roll in all it's glory
My mom's a rockstar. Seriously. She's taught me everything I know (Everything that matters anyway). Ever since I can remember she has
encouraged my creative disposition. Wether it was for
writing, painting or dying my clothes with beet juice and yerba matte tea. (Oh those good old High School hippy days...)
Here is a woman who somehow
managed to balance an art school education and three young children. Here is a woman who knows more about
art history than anyone I've ever met. Here is a woman who made it possible for me to
manifest my dreams because of her
unconditional love, support and advice.
On Saturday my mom
sold her very first painting! (Actually, she sold more like 6 paintings and 4 painted rocks.) I am
so happy for her. Finally, she has managed to find
a happy balance between abstract and her love for representational art. Finally, she had the courage to
overcome her insecurities about selling her art and forge ahead anyways.
So to celebrate, today we went out for lunch at one of our favorite sushi restaurants in Calgary (
Kinjo on Macleod). It was so much fun. As always.
I am so proud of you mom!For a look at her work and website click

This is my little nephew Lucious. He is a gem. He's two and a half and he has a form of autism called Aspergers. We don't know how severe his condition is yet because he's still just a little guy. It doesn't change the fact that we love him like crazy. In fact, I would even venture to say that we love him more.
He has a thing for vents, stripes and he loves popcorn. Today my sister-in-law and I took him to the children's play place at Market Mall. No shoes allowed inside the play place. Right. I should have known that. I walked around sporting my painted socks wherever I went. Nice.
A fabulous day. An amazing little nephew. A super cool sister-in-law. All I can think about is how I can't wait to get a paint brush in his tiny hands...

This blog is looking more like a travel blog lately than anything else!
I must be something in the air. I am itching to travel but unable to do so. So, in order to appease my travel bug I visit places where I know I will be immersed in cultural diversity.
Today I decided to pay T & T Supermarket in NW Calgary a visit. Not only is this a super cool, massive supermarket, it's also a great place to eat dim sum, buy tea and sushi dishes for a fabulous price and find all the bonzai and bamboo trees you can possibly need. I love this place! I got my Po Chai, great pictures and my traveling fix.
And finally, lunch with the bro's at the Clay Oven for some seriously authentic Indian food. Man, I just looove butter chicken! And I love my brothers too. They are the greatest.
There. Now I got my travellng fix for sure. India and China in the same day!
let's get suited up!
